Project Timeline

2007 Electric reliability assessment conducted. Scenarios identified that could cause outages in the electric system of Columbia.

2008 Additional transmission lines added on the east side of Columbia to reduce potential problems.

July 2010 Site purchased for an additional substation.

October 2010 – November 2011 Series of open house meetings conducted for public presentation of three different routing options (Option A, Option B and Option B-2) for new transmission lines in south Columbia.

October 2012 – January 2013 Public survey conducted by Columbia Water & Light; 76 percent of respondents chose Option A as the preferred route option.

July 2013 Final route selection public hearing held; Option A approved by City Council.

October 2014 Phase 1 of the project (line route study) approved by City Council to begin.

2015 Survey work and soil testing took place to determine tentative placement of poles and transmission lines.

January 2016 Work on the 2013 approved route put on hold by City Council.

2017 Construction begins.
